when i log in to my gtalk account in pidgin now, my gtalk buddy icon instantly disappears from my gtalk buddies' clients. i can confirm this by launching the gtalk client. i'm not overriding my gtalk buddy icon in pidgin. this doesn't happen in 2.5.8.

This has been the way Pidgin operates for a while, however I fixed a bug (in 2.6.<something>) that was causing Pidgin to not properly update the GTalk avatar.

Edit: Another UI that uses libpurple would also like to have the ability to not unset XMPP avatars, so this will probably be fixed (although I'm not sure how, yet).

Are you saying that this is working as intended?! That Pidgin should not be destructive and delete user's picture should be obvious… the right behaviour would be, say, to download the picture from server if one is not set locally.

This was already reported earlier as bug #788 and closed as fixed (after discussion); why then has it been decided that it is fine to delete users' images without warning?

This behaviour has been visible after 2.6.3(atleast to me.) and it was working all fine in older 2.5.8 and less.. and still there is question as to fix will be done or not..?

  • status changed from new to closed
  • resolution set to fixed
  • milestone set to 2.6.4

(In [dbaf898ed87f7d5508c202ad58882dfb4abb9072]):
jabber: Go back to not overwriting avatars if there is not one locally set.

This isn't quite right yet, because we need to pick up the hash and advertise it in our presence.

Fixes #10287.
