Cannot log into Y! when sitting behind a http/s proxy that uses NTLM authentication

Y! messenger during the logon handshaking will make several attempts to connect to https://login.yahoo.com changing up the way it authenticates w/ the proxy server. I noticed that when sitting behind a proxy server using NTLM authentication that Y! messenger works fine but am unable to connect with Pidgin. I'll be attaching packet captures illustrating the difference between client behavior.

There does not seem to be anyway to specify in Pidgin/purple to use NTLM authentication during the login handshaking.
