evolution sync is overzealous

Description

[ refile of SF bug 1641892 seeing as you are just closing all SF bugs and not forwarding them to the new bug system. tsk. tsk. tsk ]

I have gaim and evolution and am using the sync of address books between them. It's pretty good but for a few warts...

I seem to get contacts added to my evolution contact list for gaim buddies even though those buddy accounts are already listed in an already existing evo contact Is there any check done before adding an evo contact if the buddy account is already listed in one of the many IM contact spaces in an evo contact?

If I have multiple accounts for the same IM service, all buddies from all of my accounts from that same IM service are added to all other accounts. I realize that this is somewhat difficult in deciding which IM account to add an evo contact to. Perhaps some kind of "you have multiple jabber accounts, which account would you like to add the jabber contact foo@bar to?" confirmation is possible.

Or a matrix perhaps with my IM accounts on one axis and buddies to be added to that IM service on the other axis and checkboxes at the intersections so I can just click all of the IM accounts I want to see the buddies in and then OK/Apply.

Is this still an issue in Pidgin 2.5.8? Maybe change to Patches Welcome?

I don't know, TBH. I have not added a contact in quite a long time. I've just done some duplicate contact cleanup, very much likely due to pidgin/evolution integration. Let's see if any of them come back.

I suspect this is still a problem. Brian, if you don't get duplicates again, please leave a comment.
