AIM buddy list disappears and blist.xml gets overridden

Description

Since installing 2.1.1 on Windows, my AIM buddy list disappears whenever I sign on and I have to import it. Sometimes, though, when I import it, it doesn't show up, and I have to sign off and on a few times to get it to work (which invariably leads to getting a connection timeout because it says I'm trying to connect too often). Also, if I edit blist.xml to try and fix the problem, it reverts to its original state when I open Pidgin and my AIM buddy list disappears once more.

Exact same symptoms, but occurs sporadically. I leave Pidgin open nearly 24/7 on my laptop though. Problem occurred several hours into use.

Events: 1. The contact I was messaging didn't appear offline, but I kept getting:

Unable to send message: Not logged in

(Note: The Offline Message Emulation plugin's prompt did not ask me to store any of these messages in a pounce. Possibly related.) 2. Changing my availability didn't affect my log-in state. 3. I had to disable and re-enable my account. 4. Upon logging back in, most, but not all, of my contacts disappeared, and blist.xml was rewritten by Pidgin with most of the contact information missing.

...

And something unusual just occured in which my contact list was restored sans about a half dozen contacts. When I attempted to re-add one manually, it gave me an error, I told Elb about it, tried again, and it added that contact successfully.

This is extremely strange, and quite annoying.

I'm getting really strange behavior and I think it's related to this. I had no problems with my buddy list until I tried changing things around (editing buddies and groups). Everything was fine until I restarted Pidgin, but after that I found I have groups that I had added in addition to groups that I had deleted. A lot of buddies were duplicated in multiple groups and it seemed like a lot of the stuff I had attempted to delete was all back. Trying to fix this just made the problem worse.

Also, I updated a friend of mine from a beta of Gaim 2.0.0 (unsure which it was) to Pidgin 2.2.1. After doing so, keeping in mind they had recently done some editing to the buddy list under Gaim, a lot of their old groups and buddies showed up again. After trying to delete them and restarting Pidgin (and trying Gaim again), most of the buddies were gone and only an incomplete backup blist.xml~ file was left that Pidgin couldn't parse properly.

If there's any more information I could provide that would help this get resolved more quickly, let me know.

Does this still occur in 2.5.1? Can you please verify?
