The transparency area in a PNG Buddy Icon is made black in at least AIM

If I add a global Buddy Icon in Pidgin which is a PNG with transparency everything is fine with XMPP but for AIM (e.g.) this area is made black. This is perhaps due to image conversion to .jpg but should rather be white I think.

FWIW, this also happens in 2.4 for ICQ/AIM (on WinPidgin?). I tried:

1) A PNG image with transparent background at 48 x 45 pixels at 3 kb

2) A GIF image with transparent background at 48 x 45 pixels at 2 kb

with the same black background result.

Just tested this (on 2.5.0) with a PNG with transparent background.

For AIM/ICQ the background is now white! XMPP/MSN/Yahoo all show as transparent.
