Copy&Paste from OpenOffice Writer

Reported by: private_lock Owned by:
Milestone: Component: pidgin (gtk)
Version: 2.5.1 Keywords: copy paste formating HTML code

Description

When pasting a selection from OpenOffice? Writer the title of the document is inserted into my text. In addition, special characters are expanded into HTML code. This is quite disturbing. Finally exessive whitespace is added.

This is on Kubuntu. It doesn't matter, if I press the middle mousebutton or insert via menue or ctrl+v. In contrast other programs like knotes or kwrite receive the plain text.

The attachment is a document with text to select as well as a screenshot, of what happens. If I first paste the text to knotes, reselect it, copy it again and paste it to pidgin it works ... but I'd prefere the direct way.

Does this still occur in 2.5.1? Can you please verify?

  • version changed from 2.1.1 to 2.5.1

Yes, it does:

This time Pidgin 2.5.1 compiled from source Ubuntu Hardy 8.04 Gnome OpenOffice? 2.4

- The title isn't shown (good) - The umlauts "äöüß" are ok (good) - There still is excessive whitespace around (bad) - If I drag the text over, instead of Ctrl+C / V I see something like the attached text. (bad)

So, it's definitely still there

Just tested this on Ubuntu 9.04 with OpenOffice? Writer 3.0 with Pidgin 2.5.8.

Whilst I don't get the document title, I do get whitespace padding before and after. I did also paste the same text into gedit and there was no extraneous whitespace.
