AIM "AOL System Msg" Suppression/Implementation

Reported by: BHSPitMonkey Owned by: MarkDoliner

Description

It would be nice to have Pidgin handle the ever-annoying AOL System Msg multiple sign-on alert in some sort of graceful (quieter) way. I'm attaching a small mock-up image I put together showing how I think this could be done, taking after how the interface presents authentication/connection errors.

I have seen this addressed similarly in ApolloIM, a libpurple client for the iPhone/iPod Touch, in which the multiple sign-on notice is displayed within a simple alert dialog rather than by creating a new conversation window.

It's not the most important issue on the table right now, but I believe such a feature would be a welcome improvement. Let me know what you guys think.

Is there any progress on this? Will it ever happen? It has been driving me crazy, what with my laptop and desktop both being signed on. Can you do something similar to what XMPP does when you sign on in 2 places, where it shows a little 'Welcome Back! 1 account was disabled' witha button to re-enable. Of course, this button would kick the others off.

Is it hard to do? I mean, it is just parsing an IM conversation with a certain user. Other clients have done it. Or maybe can a plugin be made that can do it?

It just seems like a simple feature that would please many people.

Thanks, Daniel

A plugin could be made to parse incoming messages from given users and to short-circuit the conversation window creation for this specific message, but that isn't something I would be advise that pidgin do itself.
