can't add or IM MSN user through yahoo

Description

I received an authorization request on my Yahoo account from someone with username with the format:

name@hotmail.com

I approved, and tried to add her as well, but got an error. I forget what it was. I know it looks like a MSN account, but it was truly received via my Yahoo account.

When I try to add her through the IM window, I get the error:

(8/10/2008 12:00:26 AM) Could not add buddy <name@hotmail.com> to group <Group> to the server list on account <myYahooAcct>.

I am able to receive IMs from her, but haven't seen any evidence that I am able to return them. I haven't reproduced the problem with another user because I don't know anyone else with a Yahoo account in that format.

The Pidgin Debug Window with error level "All" doesn't seem to indicate any problems.

Thanks!

MSN and Yahoo have some limited interoperability where cross-protocol messaging can occur. We do not yet have a way to specify that the user is an MSN user. I'm reasonably sure we don't detect that the user is an MSN user, either. That said, if you sign on with an official Yahoo client and add the person as an MSN user, he/she will show up in your buddy list in Pidgin.

What about not being able to IM her either (e.g. She IMs me, a query window opens with her message, but she does not receive my responses)
