Seems to just have started this week. Yahoo Messenger software logs in fine, but v2.5.5 Pidgin fails and gives the response of "remote connection closed by host."

I have an update to my problem with Yahoo and Pidgin. So I have an original account with AT&T who then some time ago had Yahoo manage their ISP at which time Yahoo gave every one at AT&T a yahoo email account which had the At&T email account "merged" with it. I get mail at the yahoo account from either email address and aspects of the AT&T account are still present... Long description to get to the point... Just for fun I switched pidgin from the Yahoo address to the AT&T address and Pidgin managed to log in. If I go back to the yahoo address Pidgin fails to log in. Prior to the problem which started yesterday evening I had been using the yahoo address since I started using pidgin several months ago. Seem at least in my case something changed on Yahoo's end with respect to my yahoo account.

I saw this problem last night and this morning, but i seem to be logged into yahoo successfully tonight.

debug log was similar to the one lbeazely posted when it was failing.

However my yahoo account was created on yahoo directly, some 9 years ago.

lbeazley: try using just the xxxxyyyy portion as your account name (don't include the @yahoo.com part).

Probably of no use, but here's the Debug output for where mine tries to connect... Seems to be intermittent, sometimes it will connect, sometimes it won't. I have 3 Yahoo accounts, once one connects they all will.

I get the same results as others, I'd guess that this account is 9-10 years old.

I have noticed this also. I currently have both GAIM v1.3.0 and Pidgin 2.5.2 installed. I like the interface of the older GAIM and this is my primary client. I had thought it might be outdated and no longer working. Long story short: The work around I have been using is to go to webmessenger.yahoo.com and login in there. Once logged in, logout and close the window. Open Pidgin. All Yahoo accounts now login ok. (Most users can stop here as this is what they are using.) Then I close Pidgin and open GAIM and I can then login to all my yahoo accounts. I hope this might help others as well as the person fixing the issue.

Closed as duplicate of #8853.
Users have had luck with forcing their computers to cache a new IP for 'scs.msg.yahoo.com' (as discussed in the ticket I'm duping this to via ipconfig /flushdns).
