waiting for network connection

Reported by: pichoscosama Owned by: datallah
Milestone: Component: winpidgin (gtk)
Version: 2.6.2 Keywords:
Cc: olspookishmagus

Description

I'm using Windows Vista Home Premium. Connecting from ADSL wireless modem. Pidgin gives "waiting for network connection" error. I have to rerun Pidgin or disable and enable the accounts from "Manage Accounts". This did not happen on Windows XP.

Exactly the same problem but with pidgin 2.6.1 on debian linux. A couple of days ago I have upgraded pidgin to 2.6.1 through package manager and everything was ok. Today I have rebooted my computer and now I have to disable and re-enable accounts to get connected. Note: I have changed my hardware and reconfigured xorg but I believe this can't influence pidgin.

This is caused by Pidgin being built with support for Network Manager and NM not thinking you have any active network connections.

You can pass the "-f" parameter to pidgin to force it online, but you should either fix Network Manager or disable it (or build Pidgin without support for it).

This indicates that at 23:16:16, Windows notified Pidgin that the computer wasn't connected to any networks.

How are you connecting to the internet? If by wireless, is there any chance your wireless connection dropped? Does it drop and then come back immediately?

Yes, I'm using wireless. Sometimes connection between my laptop and wireless modem drops very short. Than none of my IM can connect to their base.

But if I reactivate them from "Manage Accounts" window they can reconnect if those short drops happen again.

Solved after I upgraded to Windows 7
