Pidgin does not expand to fill panel when swallowed by gnome-swallow-applet

Reported by: Ketsuban Owned by:
Milestone: Component: pidgin (gtk)
Version: 2.6.2 Keywords: pidgin gnome-swallow-applet panel

I use gnome-swallow-applet to save my poor overworked notification bar from having to display yet another notification icon. This has the handy side-effect of providing an autohide feature for Pidgin on Linux.

However, I have to carefully size the Buddy List window before swallowing it into the panel, or else it will either leave a gap at the top and/or bottom, or, worse, overshoot the bottom of the panel and potentially render portions of the window inaccessible.

I would appreciate it if Pidgin were to detect when it was being swallowed and take up all the space available in the panel to prevent this.

Caveat: I know nothing about gnome-swallow-applet.

This sounds like gnome-swallow-applet is failing to send the appropriate resize notifications to pidgin as if it were to do that the window should be getting resized correctly (the same as if you were to manually drag the window manager borders).

I don't know if there is a way for pidgin to determine that it has been swallowed, but even if there is I'm not sure there's anything we should be doing about it since I can't offhand see why this shouldn't Just Work if everything was functioning correctly.
