You need to install debug symbols (apt-get install pidgin-dbg) and then, at the prompt when it crashes, run "bt all".

Actually, darkrain42 means "bt full".

Could you also please get a debug log (the output of "pidgin -d")?

pidgin -d logs related to the transfer look like following:

(20:22:08) musictracker: Status set for all accounts (20:22:22) jabber: Recv (ssl)(242): <iq from='azafata@…/4980407121260617759829557' to='kelson@…/4502673671260645689742100' type='error' id='purpleba0d04a7'><error code='404' type='cancel'><item-not-found xmlns='urn:ietf:params:xml:ns:xmpp-stanzas'/></error></iq> (20:22:22) jabber: jabber_si_xfer_connect_proxy_cb: type = error (20:22:22) jabber: jabber_si_xfer_connect_proxy_cb: got error, method: 12 (20:22:22) jabber: IBB is possible, try it (20:22:22) jabber: Sending (ssl): <iq type='set' id='purpleba0d04a8' to='azafata@…/4980407121260617759829557'><open xmlns='http://jabber.org/protocol/ibb' sid='purpleba0d04a6' block-size='4096'/></iq> (20:22:22) jabber: Recv (ssl)(138): <iq from='azafata@…/4980407121260617759829557' to='kelson@…/4502673671260645689742100' type='result' id='purpleba0d04a8'/> (20:22:22) jabber: Sending (ssl): <iq type='set' id='purpleba0d04a9' to='azafata@…/4980407121260617759829557'><close xmlns='http://jabber.org/protocol/ibb' sid='purpleba0d04a6'/></iq> (20:22:22) jabber: jabber_si_xfer_free: destroying IBB session (20:22:22) jabber: IBB: destroying session 0x1de33e0 purpleba0d04a6 (20:22:22) jabber: jabber_si_xfer_free(): freeing jsx 0x1d0acc0 (20:22:22) jabber: in jabber_si_xfer_cancel_send

I can not publish all the log, they are too much private data inside.

For the rest, I have done exactly like indicated: https://wiki.ubuntu.com/Backtrace#Generation ... and provide the gdb logs as attachment (see gdb-pidgin-2.txt).

Are you able to reproduce the issue?

This is a very old crash? Can it still be reproduced?
