#11192 new defect

Pidgin no longer "auto-idles" after setting extended away

Reported by: mrothaus Owned by: darkrain42
Milestone: Component: pidgin (gtk)
Version: 2.6.5 Keywords: auto-idle not working

If I set an extended away, then return later and set myself "available", auto-idle does not work and I remain "available" even if I am idle for more than 1 minute (I have set myself to become idle with 1 minute of inactivity). I have to close and restart pidgin to get auto-idle to work again.

I am using XMPP server, although I don't think this problem is server-related. I'm running 2.6.5 on a Windows XP SP3 machine.

  • Status changed from new to pending

What are the values of all the settings on the Status/Idle? tab of Pidgin's preferences?

Replying to darkrain42:

What are the values of all the settings on the Status/Idle? tab of Pidgin's preferences?

Report idle time: Never Minutes before becoming idle: 1 Change to this status when idle: unchecked Auto-reply: When both away and idle Use status from last exit at startup: unchecked Status to apply at startup: avail (this is my own user-defined "available")

Just now, I set myself to extended away to test, and auto-idle worked. So it must be something in conjunction with extended away. There are times when pidgin refuses to set me to auto-away, and it almost always involves me setting a non-available status sometime during the time that pidgin is running. However, closing and restarting pidgin fixes the problem every time.

I hope others have witnessed this behavior and can document the steps to force the bug to show itself.

My apologies. I have "Change to this status when idle" checked, and the status it changes is to the built-in "idle" setting.
