Description

Hello all,

I am using Pidgin 2.6.3 in my network and I would like to prevent my employees to from adding addition protocol. I am using XMPP protocol and once I setup pidgin they should only have access to that protocol. Also is there any way to archive each chat conversation?

Thanks in advance

You can delete the plugins that provide protocols other than pidgin from the install directory (you'll want to leave both libjabber.(dll|so) and libxmpp.(dll|so), as both are necessary for XMPP.

If you want to archive chats, you could use a plugin which transmits the logs to an authoritative server to do so, or you could set up logging on the server. The former is not likely to be implemented in Pidgin (as I said, it can be done as a plugin), and the latter does not require client-side support.

Hi,

Thanks for the information about disabling the protocols. Do you have any recommendation on the any logs server that will work with pidgin?

Thanks in advance

Use the logging features of your XMPP server, is what we were saying. Doing that requires nothing of Pidgin.

Hi,

Quick question, I am looking for the Google Talk dll file within the plugins folder. I was able to remove all the other plugins except that one.

Thanks in advance

There is no GTalk dll. Google Talk is just XMPP with the domain pre-set to 'gmail.com'.

So there is no other way to remove Google Talk from the protocol list or prevent my employees from setting up Google talk on their pc?

Thanks again for all your help

Not by simply removing protocols; you would need to write a custom plugin to stop users from adding their own XMPP accounts.
