#11671 closed defect (fixed)

Please ask me for password!

Reported by: oper777 Owned by: rekkanoryo
Milestone: 2.7.0 Component: ICQ
Version: 2.6.6 Keywords:

Description (last modified by oper777)

please ask me for password when i enter incorrect password for ICQ account.

What i get: i enter incorrect password for icq, pidgin writes: "#icq uin# disabled /n Incorrect password."

Buttons: "Modify Account" and "Re-enable"

I don't want to modify account. I just mistype my password. I press "Re-enable" but it tries to connect with wrong password again and says "Incorrect password"

Please, just ask the correct password again! Now i must close completely Pidgin and start it again.

I'm using Pidgin 2.6.6 and Gentoo Stable x86

This is because you told Pidgin to remember your password, which is not the default configuration. We don't simply clear the saved password on auth failure because we've seen issues where many of the services report intermittent auth failures when the password is, in fact, correct. Modify the account and enter the password again. You won't need to change anything else. If you had not changed from the default of not saving the password, the password would be cleared on auth failure and you'd be prompted to enter it again.

No, i never use "Remember the password". I'm entering password when i start Pidgin.

And if i mistype, as i say, pidgin doesn't ask me again. It tries to connect with wrong password again and again.

  • Component changed from unclassified to ICQ
  • Status changed from new to pending

Does it work if you uncheck "Use clientLogin" for your ICQ account? (It's on the advanced tab)

(In 93d3d07e2777f5e2f9439ba46515e4b63a108a0f):
oscar: Forget un-remembered passwords on Incorrect Password w/ clientLogin.

This brings it in line with the BUCP logic (and other prpls). Fixes #11671, I assume.

I am experiencing the same behavior on my MSN account:

  • i don't use "remember password".
  • i enabled the MSN account, it asked my password, i mistyped it
  • "[account name] disabled\nUnable to authenticate: Authentication Failure" error
  • if i click Re-enable, same error appears.
  • if i click modify account, password is not set (remembered)
  • if i disable the account and enable it again, same error, without password prompt
