#12035 closed enhancement

Please re-address Tag #6813 (previously closed tag)

Reported by: moz104 Owned by: rekkanoryo
Milestone: Component: unclassified
Version: 2.7.0 Keywords: Keyboard shortcuts

That tag dealt with making Ctrl+F4 the default Close Tab keyboard shortcut. The response was that Ctrl+W is also used in a number of programs.

Personally, I have never used any program with tabs that utilizes Ctrl+W. All three major Windows browsers, and all IM clients that I've used, all use Ctrl+F4 to close tabs. Pidgin is the only software I've come into contact with that goes away from this trend, and I for one would greatly appreciate the opportunity to make it easy to use Ctrl+F4 instead of Ctrl+W

  • Status changed from new to pending

Ctrl+F4 is a default shortcut for closing the current tab if you use the MS-Windows GTK+ theme (which is the default theme).

And every major browser uses ctrl-w to close a tab, the fact that it is not the binding you are used to using doesn't change that fact. Ctrl-w is even the binding listed on the Close tab menu entry in most of them.
