#12054 closed plugin request (wontfix)

To put Off-the-Record "OTR" Messaging by default in Pidgin

Could we put this plugin which encrypts conversations automatically in Pidgin?

It is important that the private conversations remain private. The problem, it is that it is necessary to be two to have this plugin so that it functions and some contacts could balk to install it for futile reasons.

If one incorporates it directly (see that one activates it from the beginning), that does not seem any more to annoy them and one will not have to juggle any more with several plugins which encrypts.

  • Resolution set to wontfix
  • Status changed from new to closed

We have no involvement with OTR, nor do we have any desire to have any involvement with it.

Is this a categorical no or is there average to make you change opinion?

We did not write nor do we maintain that plugin. We aren't, in general, looking to take on more work than we already have (our resources are already spread somewhat thin). That being said even if we shipped with it by default we wouldn't ship with it on by default so we would be removing the installation step only (and on many systems installation is dead simple).
