#12641 new defect

Protocol Handler Should Bring Focus to Tabbed IM Window

Reported by: joseph.rall Owned by: datallah
Milestone: Component: winpidgin (gtk)
Version: 2.7.3 Keywords: Protocol Handler Link

When clicking on a link with a registered protocol (aim:, xmpp:, etc), pidgin does not bring window focus to the corresponding user when IM windows are tabbed. Sometimes the IM window does not even get focus.

This appears to be a bug because when a new IM is received when the chat window doesn't have focus, double clicking on pidgin's tray icon will bring the chat window to focus and will select the tab of the corresponding new IM.

Here is how to recreate the defect.

  1. Create a new windows shortcut by right clicking on the desktop and selecting New -> Shortcut.
  1. Point the shortcut to for gmail / gchat or aim:goim?screenname=UserScreenName for aim.
  1. Name the shortcut.
  1. Open up pidgin and start chats with multiple users.
  1. Double click the newly created shortcut.

Ideally the chat window should be brought to the foreground, given focus and the tab for the corresponding user should be the currently active tab. Unfortunately this is not the case.

If you need any more information or clarification, please let me know.

Thank You.
