Yahoo: Account locked because logging in too frequently

Reported by: wakandan Owned by: sulabh.dev
Milestone: Component: Yahoo!/Yahoo! JAPAN
Version: 2.7.9 Keywords: account locked requently

Description

It happens with my Yahoo account. Below is the verbose description

Account locked: You have been logging in too frequently. Wait a few minutes before trying to connect again. Logging into the Yahoo! website may help.

I followed the direction in this message but nothing happened as I tried again.

Weird thing is that, I tried that same account in Empathy and it couldn't work either. However, it DID work with Kopete.

Thanks.

I get this too, alternating with "too many bad password attempts" and "logging in too frequently." It used to be that yahoo threw some error if you didn't log into the web site periodically and watch the ads, but when that happened, you'd get a message when you logged into the website. Now there is no message like that, and I know the account is not locked for too many bad password attempts because 1) I hadn't been logging in at all (if anything it should be too infrequently) and 2) if it was locked for bad password attempts it would have been locked on the website too I would think. Not sure what the pidgin people can really do, though. If yahoo's API is giving this error erroneously, but it is giving that error, how can they know? Still something is weird. This particular message did not happen to me before, really. It does eventually clear up, though.

I see this is an old issue, but I just started experiencing this same problem. It started intermittently last week while running version 2.10.1, then stopped logging into Yahoo messenger all together. After upgrading to 2.10.2, still can't log into Yahoo. I can log into Yahoo messenger through the website and Meebo as well, with no problems.

  • Resolution set to out of date
  • Status changed from new to closed

Closing all yahoo bugs since the yahoo implementation in pidgin no longer works, and the new protocol is completely different. See the funyahoo++ third party plugin for an alternative.

If this still applies to other parts of pidgin, leave a comment and we'll reopen.
