#13269 closed enhancement

DNS records

Reported by: init Owned by: darkrain42
Milestone: Component: libpurple
Version: 2.7.9 Keywords: dns resolv.conf

If I start pidgin with one DNS settings (/etc/resolve.conf), then change DNS records in /etc/resolve.conf pidgin doesnt accept this changes, and will be work with old DNS servers (they may be offline), to accept new DNS records I should turn off Pidgin, and then turn it on again.

  • Status changed from new to pending

Gah, I wrote up a comment on this a while ago, but trac keeps timing out on me.

libpurple calls res_init() (which re-reads /etc/resolv.conf) under these conditions:

  • A dns resolver child process returns an error (fingerprint: "Error resolving %s:" in the debug logs)
  • Looking up a SRV or TXT record returns an error (fingerprint: "res_query returned an error")
  • libpurple is built with NetworkManager suport, NM is running, and libpurple receives an NM_STATE_CONNECTED state event

Are you actually running Pidgin/libpurple 2.7.9? What errors are you seeing in the Help->Debug Window when resolution fails?
