#13501 new defect

Buddy list members change order when clicked

Reported by: cthuljew Owned by:
Milestone: Component: pidgin (gtk)
Version: 2.7.11 Keywords: buddylist buddies order sort sortbystatus status buddy idle
Cc:

Description (last modified by cthuljew)

When the buddy list is set to Sort by Status, the top four buddies will change order when left-clicked on, instead of being highlighted. The changed order, each after one left-click, is shown in the following (and attached) screenshot:

http://www.shutupboris.com/stuff/pidgin-bug.png

When right-clicking, they will change order, and a seemingly random one will be highlighted.

These things will sometimes happen when clicking on the top three in the list, but will always happen when clicking on the fourth.

This does not happen with other sort methods, and happens every time pidgin is run.

Pidgin 2.7.11 (also 2.7.9), Ubuntu 10.10, ThinkPad? T61 Intel Centrino

(My apologies if any of this is unclear, incorrect, irrelevant or redundant. This is my second or third ever bug report.)

Are you sure you are using 2.7.11? That is not in the PPA or Ubuntu repositories.

Yes, I'm using the Ferramroberto PPA from http://ppa.launchpad.net/ferramroberto/pidgin/ubuntu. I had the exact same problem in 2.7.9, and then installed that port to see if it still happened in 2.7.11 (even if it is an unofficial version).

I have the same issue. Using the windows build. It is mostly seen on the sametime protocol. After a while, you click on idle or active people and their name jumps up to the top of the group.

I have the same problem on Win7 using the official download. Noticed it in both 2.7.10 and 2.7.11. I'm not sure if it happened previous or not.

Here's a video showing exactly what happens. It seems to be protocol agnostic for me, AIM, XMPP, MSN, and Yahoo are all affected for me. It is quite frustrating when trying to right-click or even click on a buddy to chat, etc.

I just noticed this in Pidgin 2.7.3 on Debian Squeeze. Strangely enough, it seems to be confined to one buddy group (AIM protocol). The behavior seems to want to cycle down through a subset of the contacts in the list. Opening IM windows for these contacts seems to change the order as well.

Also, after I opened IM windows for all these contacts that are cycling, I then closed each IM window, and even this seems to change the order of the buddy list.

Any updates with this? It is rather annoying :(
