Description

Hi

I am unable to logging to my yahoo, aim, jabber, irc and MSN accounts using pidgin, please resolve the issue as soon as possible.

here is the listing of the debug window, when using "no proxy" for the proxy configuration

account: Connecting to account account_name connection: Connecting. gc = 01A6C440 dnsquery: Performing DNS lookup for scs.msg.yahoo.com gtkappbar: wnd_poschanging util: Writing file accounts.xml to directory C:\Documents and Settings\Admin\Application Data\.gaim dnsquery: Error resolving scs.msg.yahoo.com: 11004 proxy: Connection attempt failed: Error resolving scs.msg.yahoo.com: 11004 account: Disconnecting account 00BB85F0 connection: Disconnecting connection 01A6C440 connection: Destroying connection 01A6C440

here is the listing of the debug window, when using "HTTP" proxy with "192.168.103.1" as the host and "8080" for the port and also for the "Use Environmental Settings" in the proxy configuration

account: Connecting to account account_name connection: Connecting. gc = 019CB7C8 dnsquery: Performing DNS lookup for 192.168.103.1 gtkappbar: wnd_poschanging dnsquery: IP resolved for 192.168.103.1 proxy: Attempting connection to 192.168.103.1 proxy: Connecting to scs.msg.yahoo.com:5050 via 192.168.103.1:8080 using HTTP proxy: Connection in progress proxy: Connected. proxy: Using CONNECT tunneling for scs.msg.yahoo.com:5050 proxy: Proxy server replied with: HTTP/1.0 403 Forbidden

here "proxima" is the the proxy server.

did I mention, at my office port 23 worked with "no proxy" settings, although there is a proxy, but the proxy port is 80 not 8080. At my home proxy port is 8080 as you might have guessed from the log message.

the same problem use to happen in my office and at my home. Using 80 as the pager port didn't work, but 23 did work for my office. But at my home I am still stuck and I have talked with my ISP they told its not possible to open 5050 port because of some security issue. However I would like to mention that Yahoo Messenger is working fine, but pidgin isn't working at all. I have tried all the ports given in the GAIM FAQ, didn't work with any of them. I have take a look at some trackers with almost same issue, all of them have different solutions and none of them worked, so I think there might be some other way to resolve the issue.

Another thing, some of my friends in different networks are also facing the same problem. Please resolve the issue with importance, cause if yahoo messenger is working then PIDGIN should work too, right??

The fact that Yahoo! doesn't connect behind an HTTP proxy is covered in bug #496. Are you having problems with other protocols, too? What is the server name or IP address and port number of the proxy server? Are you able to access https websites through the proxy server when using a web browser?

well at my home the proxy port is 8080, none of the protocols are working although sometimes MSN does work with using http tunneling but not all the time. And yes I can access all the web sites with my browser using the proxy.

For AIM you probably just need to set the port to 443 in the 'AIM Options' section on the Advanced tab when modifying your account.

For GMail you can try enabling "Force old SSL" then setting the connect port to 443 and the connect server to talk.google.com.

For MSN you should just enable "Use HTTP Method" on the Advanced tab when modifying your account.

will it be possible to connect using proxy ever??

As I said, the Yahoo! problem is covered in bug #496 (meaning it IS a problem with Pidgin, and there's probably nothing you can do about it short of changing the code). I don't know if we'll ever have support for proxying Yahoo! connections on a port other than 5050--I can't predict the future.
