#14460 new defect

finch disconnects from freenode's IRC a lot

Reported by: ned Owned by: sadrul
Milestone: Component: finch (gnt/ncurses)
Version: 2.9.0 Keywords:
Cc:

Description

I see a lot of these messages like this from NickServ?:

NickServ?: (notice) This nickname is registered. Please choose a different nickname, or identify via /msg NickServ? identify <password>.

NickServ?: (notice) You are now identified for myhandle.

And then, after a few of those, I'll see this message in my IRC chatroom:

The account has disconnected and you are no longer in this chat. You will be automatically rejoined in the chat when the account reconnects.

Then, even when the message from NickServ? repeats, I am not reconnected to my chatroom.

I'm running fedora 14, have no pidgin addons. In fact, I don't even have pidgin installed, I have only finch and libpurple:

$ rpm -qa | grep -i finch

finch-2.9.0-1.fc14.x86_64

$ rpm -qa | grep -i purple

libpurple-2.9.0-1.fc14.x86_64

As you can see, it's getting worse and I can't seem to even use freenode any more.

I am having this very same problem. I reverted back to 2.7.11 and the problem went away (don't go back to 2.8.0 as that is even worst [see here why http://developer.pidgin.im/ticket/14262]).

This bug is aggravating me.

Is there anything I can do to mitigate this? Is there any info I can provide that helps classify this somehow?

What would help get this fixed?

I am using 2.10.0 currently and it is much better but freenode still suffers a lot of disconnections compared to other IRC servers compared to 2.7.11 build of pidgin.
