#14864 new defect

Pidgin crashes upon Nick change in SILC channel

Reported by: jefftheriffer Owned by: elb
Milestone: Component: SILC
Version: 2.10.1 Keywords:

When another user changed their nick on a SILC channel I was on, my pidgin client crashed. We repeated this experiment multiple times and I have attached a report.

There does not appear to be anything special about the specific nick selected, just the act of renaming an existing user triggers some sort of crash between the SILC plugin and the UI.

If need be I can make debug logs, I do not have any currently handy.

From the stack trace I can't tell whether this is the same bug as #14392. It seems like it might actually be different.

I tried reproducing this in Linux with the 2.x.y branch with e30e044988add329e86eaf06a2f6ab1b3c5c47bb reverted, but Pidgin didn't crash for me.

SILC is one of our less-used protocols, and the SILC network is kind of deteriorating (no public web site, no active developers), so it's possible this bug won't get a lot of attention. On the plus side, if it turns out that this crash IS the same as #14392, then this bug will get fixed in Pidgin 2.10.1 when it's released within the next week.

Thanks for the update. I'll test the new version when it's released.
