#1519 closed enhancement (duplicate)

Add the ability to hide mobile contacts from the buddy list

Description

I know that many people like to avoid contacting mobile users, and it is often very frustrating to accidentally send a message to someone who is not at a computer.

I know many other IM clients have this feature, and even though "simpler is better" is the rule for preferences, adding an option that would benefit large groups of users shouldn't be prevented.

If for nothing else, hiding mobile contacts makes scrolling through long lists of contacts much faster and easier, and I believe that to be the ultimate goal of Pidgin.

I second the request for this feature. It also would be nice to have all mobile usernames grouped under a mobile heading.

Justineatworld got it right - preventing users from accidentally sending an IM to a mobile device is a great usability goal. I believe this does make the app simpler at the end of the day.

I'm glad people are agreeing on this, but it's been six months since my submission and I don't think the idea will gain any traction unless someone with motivation actually codes and presents a working modification.

Unfortunately my current schedule does not allow for such niceties, but I think it would be a great addition to pidgin if anyone sees this and has the time.

I made a separate ticket for the same idea. Mine was a little more general and is searchable for exactly what people might be asking/looking for. Let's keep our fingers crossed.
