#15275 new defect

IRC colour value non-standard in html log

Reported by: the9muse Owned by: elb
Milestone: Component: IRC
Version: 2.10.4 Keywords: irc log color standard compatibility

mIRC has 16 colours, which Pidgin supports.

But in automatically saved log (html format), some colour values contain spaces and are not recognised by modern browsers.

These colours include: light blue, dark blue, light green, dark green, light grey, dark grey

<span style='color: dark green; background: light grey;'>blahblahblah</span>

Correct value should be without the spaces.

<span style='color: darkgreen; background: lightgrey;'>blahblahblah</span>

Since the colour cannot be recognised, they are not displayed when viewing the log in Firefox, Chrome, or IE (9), only Pidgin's built-in log browser would shows the correct colour.

OK; two points:

  1. The HTML logs that Pidgin produces are not actually completely valid HTML in a number of ways; you are likely to find places that they do not display properly in browsers.
  2. I believe this particular problem is also neatly solved by using RGB values instead of named colors; those named colors should work on real computers (that have rgb.txt), but likely do not reliably work in Windows. I will make this change at some point. In the meantime, you may find it useful to postprocess your logs to convert, e.g., 'light blue' to '#ADD8E6' or 'lightblue'.
