#1559 new enhancement

IRC contacts don't change status to away

Reported by: menesis Owned by: elb
Milestone: Component: IRC
Version: 2.0.1 Keywords: irc status away idle
Cc:

Description

I have a number of IRC contacts, some are combined with other accounts like ICQ. Their status always appears as Online as long as they are connected to IRC, even if they are Away. Also their Idle time is never displayed in contact list, although it is shown for other protocols.

As I understand that's because IRC away status is not mapped to Galago away status properly.

IRC protocol does not have support for notifications when contacts change state, I believe, but that can be worked around by /whois'ing contacts which are in buddy list. Colloquy has a decent support for all that - it dims away buddies in channel's user list, and has a Buddy list with all contacts and their away/idle status. Could take a look there how they do it, that's an Open Source IRC client for Mac OS X.

I think this has been discussed before and that polling was determined to be unnacceptable. elb will know the details.

We can use /whois for buddies in the buddy list, and /who for buddies in channels we are in. I do not like this idea, though, as it's pretty expensive.
