Pidgin Crashes Frequently With Segmentation Fault

Reported by: pranesh-prakash Owned by: deryni

Description (last modified by pranesh-prakash)

I was getting frequent crashes with Pidgin on Ubuntu 14.04. I purged that copy of Pidgin.

I then downloaded a fresh source of pidgin 2.10.10 from the pidgin-developers PPA, and then applied the following steps:

$ apt-get source pidgin

$ sudo apt-get build-dep pidgin

$ cd pidgin-2.10.10

$ patch -p1 < carbons.5.patch

$ dpkg-source --commit

$ sudo dpkg-buildpackage -us -uc

$ sudo dpkg -i *.deb

Still, the crashes continue. I've attached the backtrace.

Heads up, your password is part of this backtrace. Though I don't think your email address is visible, I would change it if I were you.

Thanks so much! Scrubbed the backtrace, and changed my password.

  • Component changed from unclassified to XMPP
  • Owner changed from EionRobb to deryni

Does this still happen with 2.10.12 and without the carbons patch?

Looks vaguely similar to the one mentioned in the comments of #7660
