Better hipchat integration: choose default Handle

Hi, I'm using pidgin to access Hipchat. As explained here, Hipchat requires a Handle distinct from the username. This triggers a few annoyances

  • one needs to use the “join a chat dialog” instead of clicking the room name
  • whenever the internet connection drops and comes back, accepting a room invitation doesn't work. There is a popup for each room I was in. With several Hipchat rooms and wifi/wired frequent switches, this can become a burden.

Can I set the Handle once and for all (possibly by modifying a configuration file)?

I can't reopen this ticket, but the feature request is bascially the same:

My company uses HipChat? and I also would very much like this feature to be implemented. The lack of this makes the experience of using pidin for HipChat? annoying.

Here is an additional annoyance currently experienced by multiple users:

  • When a colleague sends me an invitation to a HipChat? chat room. I am prompted to accept or deny the invitation. If I click on Accept, I get the 403 error described in the original feature request. I have to note the chat room name, search for it, and join it manually (making sure to erase the incorrect auto-filled username and replace it with my HipChat? handle)

Note that private / hidden chat rooms require an invitation to join

  • Resolution set to wontfix
  • Status changed from new to closed

Closing this as hipchat is no longer supported by Atlassian
