#3508 new enhancement

Join an IRC channel without being there.

Reported by: JZA Owned by: seanegan
Milestone: Component: pidgin (gtk)
Version: 2.2.1 Keywords: idle, chat, query, nick, buddy list

So I usually hang at freenode and also add the channels to my Buddy List. However just because I did that doesn't mean I am actually in the channel.

I think it would be cool to show up in the channel but have it as idle and just get msg when someone mentions my name on a: <somenick> <my nick>: hi

Currently the behavior for when someone mentions your nick includes a hightlight process. So what about having the channel show up when the user mention my name.

  • Component changed from IRC to pidgin (gtk)
  • Owner changed from elb to sadrul

This is not actually related at all to IRC, it is simply related to the way Pidgin handles chats.

Some of your request is handled by the new persistent chat functionality (thanks to Sadrul) which will be released soon. Notification of your nick being said I cannot speak to -- perhaps Sadrul can.

Right now, any new message in a 'hidden' persistent chat will cause an 'unread-message' icon to show up at the top-right corner in the buddy list. It should be possible to cause the chat-row in the buddylist to go bold in such an event (like it currently does for unread messages in hidden IMs with buddies in the list), or perhaps only if there are 'nick-said' messages in that chat. This may not be possible from a plugin. However, it will be possible for a plugin to automatically popup the conversation-window when your nick is said in the chat.
