Cool Pidgin Debug Mode Script for Windows (tested in XP)

Reported by: dave1g Owned by: datallah
Milestone: Component: winpidgin (gtk)
Version: 2.2.1 Keywords: debug script batch windows

Description

I couldn't put the equivalent of "pidgin.exe -d > debug.log" without windows complaining. And typing that in at the command prompt would have been annoying plus it leave a command window lying around that no one wants.

So after a few hours of searching online how to write batch scripts, how to process strings in them, and launching another program without keeping a command shell window open (the hardest part).

This script opens pidgin in debug mode and redirects its debug output to a new file each time in a debug directory under the directory the script is executed from.

The debug directory will be created if needed. Hope some one likes it. :-)

Put this file in your pidgin install directory, and then link the shortcut to it if its not in the normal directory.

  • Component changed from unclassified to winpidgin (gtk)
  • Owner changed from lschiere to datallah

This is something that I think would be better placed somewhere in the wiki, perhaps on the [TipsForBugReports] screen.

I don't think the .lnk file is necessary (and is problematic as it assumes that Pidgin is installed in "C:\Program Files\Pidgin").
