#3656 closed enhancement (wontfix)

have pidgin save a different rpt file for each crash instead of appending to the same file

Version: 2.2.1 Keywords:

Description

numbered files would do, but date/time stamped files in a similar filename format to the way IM log files are written would be nice. (2007-10-22.210212-0400EDT.pidgin.crash.rpt)

how do those crash files even get written anyway? if the program crashed how did it write a file?

Why is this necessary?

The crash files are generated by exchndl.dll from the mingw-utils, which installs an error handler to generate the crash report files.

It doesn't seem worth the effort to make a custom version just to rename the files, especially when there isn't anything wrong with the current process of appending.

oh interesting. Well I wouldn't want anyone to reinvent the wheel.

It is just personal preference, I guess, like when uploading a crash report, it is cluttered with all the previous crashes before that one, unless you delete the file between crashes.

I'm not inclined to modify exchndl.dll unless I really have to.
