I don't understand. Both of those work in Pidgin already.

comment:5 Changed 10 years ago by liviopl

it would be nicer if we get milestone :] .

comment:6 Changed 10 years ago by deryni

That would require someone to care about this feature, decide it is a good idea, decide that it is possible, and intend to work on it. I have done none of those things.

comment:7 Changed 10 years ago by liviopl

i think it's good idea, because when someone has link in status message i must to open information window to open link.

there's no other way.

btw, emoticons are only estetical feature, links are usability feature.

instead of clickable links there may be "open link from status message" menu command in buddy's popup menu.

Similar to #1396, but this one includes status messages.

comment:10 Changed 10 years ago by hbons

I think this is a good idea and I don't think it's very hard to do (the links). It's annoying having to open the info dialog, copy the link, open your browser, and paste the link. This can be done in a single click. There is an example on: http://www.kksou.com/php-gtk2/articles/put-a-clickable-link-in-GtkLabel---Part-2.php but I'm sure the devs already know how to do this. :)

I closed #5402 and #1396 as duplicates of this ticket so that we have ONE ticket to discuss this issue.

With msn also I can't see smiles in the nick of my contacts, in the buddy list. It is very ugly to see

clickable links in pidgin buddy list please.

Links in status messages should be clickable via ( hover > click link )

Currently requires ( hover > context-menu > get info > click link > close info )

This ticket seems to have become a magnet, will someone with access please re-title the ticket "clickable status links" or something similar? The current title makes no sense.

  • Summary changed from Buddy list / tooltips should display status links and emoticons to linkify links and show emoticons in buddy list / tooltips

I'm not sure it's meaningful to linkify links in tooltips other than, perhaps, to indicate that there is something clickable (you'd still need to click it via some other method, though)

@darkrain42 re: clicking from tooltips impossible: impossible with GTK? Explain?

That is the exact process in the native gmail based chat. ( hover and wait for tooltip > click link inside tooltip ). This necessitates that the tooltip sticks around for mouseover, not sure that is possible or wanted -- but it works great in gmail.

Another option would be to allow for the entire status message to be optionally shown in the buddy list with line-wraps, rather than showing only the first 30 chars or so followed by (...) These links could then possible be activated directly in the buddy list.

It seems people use status messages as another linkshare channel regularly, and using pidgin is a pain in the arse to open 'em.

Hmm, I was thinking that the GTK+ tooltips stay "bound" to the mouse (i.e. they move as you move the mouse), but maybe that's not accurate.

I don't know how it would work with trying to click on links; how would you then expose the tooltip for an element that was underneath the currently exposed tooltip?

comment:22 Changed 8 years ago by here

The tooltip is offset right/left or fully appears right or left of the mouse rather than below.

#5472 : Persistent Infoboxes #12907 : Link in status - make it clickable #12162 : Clickable links in status messages

Now that WhatsApp? became popular, I see lots of users using emoticons in status. It'd be great if we could see the emoticon without the need to open a new dialog, like how it is done currently.
