#3786 closed enhancement (invalid)

Show text in a not installed font as standard font

Reported by: 603729 Owned by:
Milestone: Component: pidgin (gtk)
Version: 2.2.2 Keywords: font

Description

Several protocols support to change the font in the text messages you send. When you do not have this font on your machine, Pidgin shows the characters as small unreadable squares. Pidgin should determine whether you have got the particular font on your machine and if not, use the standard font.

Does anyone know how other messengers handle this?

I don't think the bug description is accurate. It does fall back to a different font (pidgin itself doesn't control this - it happens via pango), the reason that you see the squares instead of the text is that the font that is being used doesn't contain the glyphs that it is being asked to render.

Errr...so can this be closed as it seems like it's not a Pidgin issue?
