We do not target OS X specifically. Adium, however, does, and the dashboard widget request would be better to pose directly to them.

comment:2 Changed 11 years ago by thelizardreborn

What about Vista? That's the OS I'm currently running.

comment:3 Changed 11 years ago by rekkanoryo

I don't see us (Pidgin) doing this. Very few of us use Windows, and those that do don't have Vista. An interested person with the ability to write such a plugin would be necessary.

comment:4 Changed 11 years ago by thelizardreborn

Alright, thanks for the explanation. I may try tackling it for myself at some point in the future, but I doubt I have the necessary ability.

If I do write one, I'll submit it.

I would like to second this request. I know you people who write this program hate windows vista and such, but it would an incredibly valuable tool for average users (like me) who have no programming capabilities. This could be just a hopeless wish, but if someone out there reads this and has a mild interest in creating this, there are those of us who would really appreciate it. Thanks.

(P.S. Writing gadgets can't be that hard for someone with proficient programming knowledge right? It seems like it wouldn't be an overburdening task)

From what I've learned, Windows gadgets are basically tiny web pages, so a developer (possibly me if nobody else is interested) takes an existing web interface of Pidgin (http://www.thirdmartini.com/index.php/WebPidgin), a gadget should be pretty easy to make.

Oh man, I personally know several people that would use a gadget of this sort, if created. I would propagate it heavily, and I know that I could get several people to switch to pidgin if it were created.

I have had no success installing or compiling ThirdMartini?'s webpidgin plugin. If that could be installed, creation of a gadget would be relatively simple.

comment:10 Changed 11 years ago by ThirdMartini

The pidgin plugin there (ThirdMartini?) is quite a bit out of date. If there is serious interest in this I can certainly bring it back into a working state pretty quickly.

comment:11 Changed 11 years ago by bigbadbobbyb

I am very extremely interested in this. I don't have the programming skills at all though, so I'm just calling out again for someone who has the talent to get this going. Pidgin is the last remaining window that I always have open that hasn't been able to be merged into my Vista sidebar. So yes, ThirdMartini?, there is some serious interest. and to anyone else out there who could make this happen... please consider it! thanks!

WebPidgin? FLL For Windows Pidgin 2.4.1

comment:12 Changed 11 years ago by ThirdMartini

I updated and compiled my webpidgin plugin and attached it to this ticket. The newest version will always be at http://data.thirdmartini.com/Pidgin/ . I don't have any clue to how one would integrate this into a Vista dashboard widget. ( I don't even have a copy of Vista ) so if anyone is willing to do the dashboard work I'll gladly help out if changes are needed in the webpidgin plugin.

Thanks ThirdMartini?! I am going to try and use this to make a Vista gadget, but it may take some time. I'll keep everyone posted.

thanks lizardreborn! i hope all goes well. In case you are wondering what features to try and implement, i know i would like the ability to change the height of it (so some scrolling feature would be important since it probably wouldn't be able to show all buddy's at once at smaller heights) and the ability to manually organize buddies (just like in the buddy list window). other than that, just standard buddy list stuff, displaying buddy's names, status and idle times, and a window opens if i double click 'em. again, thank you so much for looking into this.

Let me know if you need me to make any changes on my end.

A Gadget/plugin combo that lets you put your Pidgin buddy list in the Windows Vista Sidebar

comment:17 follow-up: Changed 11 years ago by Rudism

I've attached a quick Gadget/plugin combo that I whipped up over the last couple days that lets you put your Pidgin buddy list in the Vista Sidebar for those of you who were looking for this. If I do any more work on it, new versions will be available here

Replying to Rudism:

Rudism, thank you so much. So far it has been working great. I have a couple suggestions I'd like to pass on to you, however, I don't see any way to contact you at rudism.com. The README says to contact you there for support and donations, but I don't see anything that lets me do that... How can I/we contact you? Again, thanks for the great work.

Replying to bigbadbobbyb:

Sorry... In the readme I was anticipating a redesign of rudism.com which I haven't finished yet. I've put my email address on the current page now where you can reach me at.

Windows Gadgets have been discontinued and are not available in newer versions of Windows.

Maybe this very old ticket can be closed?
