Can't send messages to some contacts on MSN

Reported by: Nushio Owned by: khc
Milestone: Component: MSN
Version: Keywords: msnp14

This bug is an odd one, and I'm not sure on how to debug it.

I can send messages to a friend with Windows Live Messenger 8.1.0178.00 but not to another with Windows Live Messenger 8.5.1018 .

I'm using Pidgin-devel 2.4.0 compiled from Monotone this morning, with --enable-msnp14

I'd love to help debugging this issue.

I've managed to talk to a friend with Windows Live Messenger 9.0.1407.1107 with no issues.

I can receive messages, files, nudges from Windows Live Messenger 8.5.1018. I can send files and nudges, but not messages to Windows Live Messenger 8.5

Replying to khc:

debug log please

I previously attached a debug log, although it seems that I can now send messages to all MSN Messenger Clients.

It might've been a timeout error or something, I deleted the .purple folder and now I can send messages.

my bad, somehow I didn't see the debug log.

I don't see anything wrong in the log though, how do you know it's not sent? Did you ask your buddy and he say he didn't receive it?

I've noticed the pattern, the only things I was able to send were nudges and files. I asked around 3 different Live 8.5 users until I concluded that it was the client. I had to switch back to Pidgin 2.3.1 to actually talk to them.

I didn't see anything wrong, and according to my buddy he did receive those messages from the Debug Log I posted, so I really don't know how it got fixed, but I'm glad it did ;)

you probably did an mtn up? There's a patch that I committed from Jorge that fixes an issue with parsing client ID.

I did do an mtn up, didn't know at the time I submitted the ticket that my 'buddy' was just toying with me today and did receive the messages.

Case closed? :-)
