#5277 new plugin request

IRC encoding per channel

Reported by: marjusz Owned by: elb
Milestone: Component: IRC
Version: 2.4.0 Keywords: irc encoding

Hi, could anybody do an option to use different encoding in differene chat rooms, but just one irc account? I'm using utf-8 and also iso-8859-2 and I have to have two irc accounts, it's very inconvenient for me. I was told this can't be done by plugin :(

I think you could do this with a plugin if that plugin attached to the irc-receiving-text signal and did character set conversion from whatever was expected on that channel to UTF-8 (or whatever encoding the irc account has specified in the account dialog).

No, but the irc-sending-text signal might.

I think there should be an official suggestions from the server admins what encoding all users on their server should use.

If everybody followed such an convention, this use case would not occur.

The IRC protocol is just old and ugly. I wish we could get rid of it.
