Is this on Windows? It works fine for me. Note, the file chooser ignores the underscore when sorting, so "_c" will end up between "a" and "d".

im in windows, and can see the files beginning with underscore. They are sorted differently, they are above files starting with 'a' and below files starting with numbers.

I am using Pidgin on Windows also; actually I could have been more specific in the original report: I was looking for a folder name that starts with an underscore. I haven't had a chance to be on that machine since Friday, so I don't know whether the ignores-underscore sorting might be what is happening. It sure wasn't the behavior dave1g reports for files; I was expecting and looking for underscore to sort either before or after alphanumeric characters (I only have alphabetic characters for the other folder names in the folder where I was looking, so the sort order of underscore relative to digits wouldn't have come into play).

I'm quite certain this isn't something we can do anything about. If it's just a hidden file, you can right-click in the area that shows files and select the Show Hidden Files entry on the context menu.
