Description

I have this bug a few versions but its hard to reproduce, so I have tried to getter enough information to fix it.

When I'm chatting with a friend who uses AMSN on a Mac, I sometimes get disconnected from MSN. I never noticed it with others and my friend doesn't notice any problems. It also happens when I'm in busy status and not in invisible status. I don't know about other status because I only use invisible and busy.

My debug log is the following:

Do you have some software firewall running?

I only run the basic firewall provided with windows Vista. Next tot that I have avast!home edition, This is a Virus scanner but has some network protection function on board.

I also use Pidgin under Ubuntu where I don't have the problem.

does it happen if you disable the firewall and other network protection software?

Replying to khc:

I have first paused a few network functions of Avast! but kept the main scanner active. With no success. After shutting down the scanner completely, I haven't the problem anymore. However keep in mind that I just temporary shut down the scanner. I will try to do a few more test in the near future if you like.

I watch the connection with TCP View when I was chatting with my friend and I before the disconnect is saw that there where a lot of connections of ashWebSv.exe (web scanner of avast!)

I guess it checks all connections and closes down the one that he doesn't trust. For some reason he closes one of Pidgin.

Would it help if I catch some network packages?

  • Resolution set to invalid
  • Status changed from new to closed

it sounds like avast is killing the connection, and there's nothing we can do about that. This is something you need to complain to them.
