Pidgin Crashes Unpredictably In MSN Group Chats (Segmentation Fault)

Reported by: Fyora Owned by:
Milestone: Component: pidgin (gtk)
Version: 2.4.1 Keywords:

Description

Occasionally Pidgin will crash when you are in a group MSN chat. This has been going on since 2.4.0 or so, and is not a plugin issue. My other friends are experiencing this issue (2.4.0 - 2.4.3)

I've ran pidgin -d > debug.txt and got the crash, and the command line suggests that it is a segmentation fault which causes the crashes.

As for the debug file itself, there doesn't seem to be any abnormalities near the end before the crash.

the backtrace only references some tooltip stuff, but ins't too useful since there's no debug symbol. Are you sure this is msn related? can you get another backtrace after installing the -dbg package from your distribution?

Uploaded new backtrace.

  • Component changed from MSN to pidgin (gtk)
  • Owner khc deleted

this definitely doesn't sound like msn

This looks vaguely like a tooltip crash that was fixed recently, are you sure this is still happening in 2.4.3? What plugins do you have loaded?
