Description

Anyone got the skillz & time to make pidgin support the XEP-0048 part of the XMPP protocol? Bookmarks would make life a lot easier

I'm not a coder but if I can help in some way or facilitate getting it going, let me know what I can do. I was referred here. Thanks

Adding support for fetching the bookmark list from pep on login is doable, publishing them and being notified of changes may require more work (I'm unsure what the current status of pidgin's support for pubsub/pep is and what, if anything, in the way of client support is needed for the notifications).

OK, this is probably duplicate of my issue #7990 . I think for the moment at least read-only solution would be helpful (given the frequency of connecting to the account with adding new bookmarks, it should be enough).

Also note, that many servers still use the old version of this XEP available at http://xmpp.org/extensions/attic/xep-0048-1.0.html -- actually I believe it's default on ejabberd.

Ummm, I guess the attached Perl script is not a patch as such, so maybe this plugin should be added to the list of 3rd party plugins (and then close this ticket)?

Well, no, this is not complete support ... I cannot edit bookmarks stored on the server, it just opens all bookmarks which are created there by other programs (gajim in my case).

Moreover, this version is already obsolete ... the "official" URL is http://gitorious.org/pidgin-purple-perl-plugins/pidgin-purple-perl-plugins/blobs/master/open-chats-from-xmpp-bookmarks.pl

The repo appears to be http://repo.or.cz/w/pidgin-purple-perl-plugins.git (at least at this point).

I can't see this plugin running properly on the lastest version of Pidgin. However it's very annoying to let the user handle this feature, could it be possible to add it directly in Pidgin itself? It's a major part of the XMPP protocol, supported by most of clients (Gajim, Jitsi, Kopete, Psi, Psi+, etc.) Pidgin and Empathy are the ones to don't support it by default and make the life very complicated to switch from client or just reconnect from home to work.

Replying to mcepl:

changed git repo to http://repo.or.cz/w/pidgin-perl-plugins.git

I've tried to use it in Pidgin 2.10.7 (libpurple 2.10.7) but it seem to have no effect. =(

I've found in this repo the lastest version of the script, from 2010: https://gitorious.org/pidgin-purple-perl-plugins/pidgin-purple-perl-plugins/source/0ffac62571ea42aa03eab24fd08b43c2cfe815c1:open-chats-from-xmpp-bookmarks.pl

My question is this one: is it possible to have a full featured management of XMPP bookmarks with this plugin, meaning add bookmarks + delete bookmarks + set/unset as auto-join?

I guess this plugin doesn't work anymore. I was not successful with it.
