Yahoo - File transfer to offline (invisible) contacts doesn't work

Reported by: b3_1987 Owned by: marv
Milestone: Component: Yahoo!/Yahoo! JAPAN
Version: 2.4.3 Keywords: file transfer Yahoo offline
Cc:

Description

When I try to send a file to a contact that is invisible and that uses Y!Messenger, Pidgin shows that it has sent the file, but the contact doesn't receive anything - he's not even asked to if he wants to receive something. After the contact becomes available, sending sometimes works, sometimes not.

Here's what the debug window shows me while doing this:

(12:08:25) dnsquery: Performing DNS lookup for filetransfer.msg.yahoo.com
(12:08:25) dnsquery: IP resolved for filetransfer.msg.yahoo.com
(12:08:25) proxy: Attempting connection to 209.191.110.214
(12:08:25) proxy: Connecting to filetransfer.msg.yahoo.com:80 with no proxy
(12:08:25) proxy: Connection in progress
(12:08:25) proxy: Connected to filetransfer.msg.yahoo.com:80.[[BR]] (12:08:25) yahoo: AAA - in yahoo_sendfile_connected
(12:08:27) yahoo: 33 bytes to read, rxlen is 53
(12:08:27) yahoo: Yahoo Service: 0xbe Status: 1

and i think this is what it says when it sends ok (the contact was available when i logged in):

(12:12:06) yahoo: 64 bytes to read, rxlen is 84
(12:12:06) yahoo: Yahoo Service: 0xdc Status: 1
(12:12:06) dnsquery: Performing DNS lookup for relay.msg.yahoo.com

(12:12:06) yahoo: 206 bytes to read, rxlen is 226
(12:12:06) yahoo: Yahoo Service: 0xde Status: 1
(12:12:06) dnsquery: Performing DNS lookup for 98.136.112.43
(12:12:06) dnsquery: IP resolved for 98.136.112.43
(12:12:06) proxy: Attempting connection to 98.136.112.43
(12:12:06) proxy: Connecting to 98.136.112.43:80 with no proxy
(12:12:06) proxy: Connection in progress

I can confirm this behavior. However, now changing from invisible to visible does not matter. It use to, but not anymore. File transfers are not working with Yahoo.

v2.5.5 has the same problem as well. The file will transfer sometimes and other times not regardless if the user is invisible or not.

  • Status changed from new to pending

Check this behavior again when we release 2.6.0. The Summer of Code project from 2008 for Yahoo protocol support improvements has been merged and will be released then. Among the changes are a ton of file transfer related additions.

I'm marking this ticket as pending, and it will close in 14 days if there's no response. That's perfectly fine; if the issue still exists in 2.6.0, you can comment here and we'll reopen the ticket.
