Pidgin doesnt support /oper. I love pidgin but since pidgin doesnt support /oper and all the other commands, i am stuck with mibbit. Can you please support /oper and the commands that work with it? Thanks

  • Milestone set to Patches welcome

You can use /oper commands by way of /quote, but you are correct that there is no Pidgin support for /oper. We do not consider IRC operator duties a primary concern of Pidgin, but I would accept a patch to add various maintenance commands.

  • Milestone changed from Patches welcome to 2.5.1
  • Resolution set to fixed
  • Status changed from new to closed

(In c3270f154f1777243d7c71b4e7eaa86bb417d93a):
Apparently messenger@… is some sort of server-side buddy that always exists in your AB Block list, but you shouldn't try to add it to your Contact List, so now we won't.

Fixes #6440.

I'm not sure what QuLogic meant to close, but this wasn't it. :-)

Sorry, /quote $1- is suppose to be /quote oper $1-

Plugins can add commands, though they may not be able to run other commands when the custom commands are run. If not that can be made possible (and would solve the long-standing issue where commands can not be run from pounces).

yes this problem is very humiliating.

To become an IRC operator and to be able to chat with NickServ?, BotServ?, ChanServ?... to execute special commands, there is no other way than sending "/OPER nickname password"

If you cannot add this command, it may be useful to give the user the right to send a raw command from an input box.

It is really necessary, Pidgin is eligible to support a so easy command with a so nice power.

Thanks for a further version.

As mentioned several times on this thread, the /quote command does just this. You can use /quote oper [arguments] to achieve the effect you are requesting.

/oper is different from /op. However, /op should work fine in Pidgin. You can op a user from a channel window with a simple:

/op username
