Is there a reason you think you cannot do this? Have you tried just adding the second account? Did it not work for some reason?

Correct, it says:

Unable to save new account An account already exists with the specified criteria

However, I did just now put in a different username, and it did accept it. So, though it's 2 different connections, it does have the same username (though not password or connection information). I thought that perhaps the "Local alias" option would distinguish the accounts ... or at least that since the connection information is different that it would recognize it as a second, separate appearance. So is that a bug then? Seems like it might be easily addressed. Thanks for you prompt reply!

This sounds to me like the Groupwise plugin needs to handle the server as part of the main account details (similarly to the way pidgin handles it for IRC and XMPP accounts) as opposed to handling it as a connection detail (as it would appear to be handling it currently).

pidgin cannot allow two accounts with the same identifying main account data (username or username+server or what-have-you) because that information is what pidgin uses to find the account. So if your problem is that your username is identical on multiple groupwise servers and as such pidgin will not let you add more than one, and that the connection server is a critical part of setting up the account then I believe the above is correct and simply needs fixing.

It is as you say. Thanks.

I downloaded the latest, 2.6.3, and sorry to see that this issue was not addressed. I'm still unable to have 2 separate Groupwise accounts with the same user name.

The groupwise plugin was largely contributed to us and I don't believe any of the developers actually use it, which makes making substantive changes difficult. If you are able to write the patch we would most likely accept it, if you are unable to write it but would be willing to test it (and can confidently indicate that the server address really should be part of the identifying account information, the way it is in an XMPP id or an MSN userid) someone may be willing to undertake writing it (I don't believe the change should be all that difficult, though I haven't looked into it either).

Thanks for your prompt reply. I most definitely would be interested and willing to test it as you suggest. I'd write it if I were a developer - but willing to try, but would need assistance on how to start. I wonder though, why wouldn't the alias be used as the identifying account information? Otherwise, yes, the server address should be part of the identifying account information if the the account alias can't.

The alias isn't because the server doesn't know anything about it and you can change it whenever you want, it isn't a uniquely identifying piece of information. Incoming data from the server will never make reference to your local alias and as such pidgin can't use it to match against, etc.

For local differentiation the local alias can work just fine (though people often use the same local alias for all their accounts, something like 'Me' or what-have-you) but that's not the 'problem' we need the unique information to 'solve'.

Replying to deryni:

I'm back...

I see I'm still unable to connect to multiple GroupWise? systems with the same user ID. Last we left it was my willingness to test, or otherwise get some info about how to develop a patch. As your mentioned, simply identifying the GroupWise? account like XMPP does would likely remedy this issue
