#7671 new defect

Add Chat dialog doesn't switch XMPP conference server

Reported by: akrherz Owned by: deryni
Milestone: Component: XMPP
Version: 2.5.2 Keywords: muc server dialog

The Buddies -> Add Chat does not switch the conference server entry box like the Buddies -> Join a Chat does when you have Pidgin configured with multiple XMPP accounts.

Steps to replicate:

  1. Config pidgin with 2 accounts
  2. Buddies menu -> Add Chat
  3. Change account to join chat as, no conference server change

Expected Behaviour:

Conference server changes to match the account you selected like

in the Join a Chat dialog.

Some #pidgin conversation related to this issue.

etan1: The problem now is I'm not sure I think either dialog actually works well.
etan1: The Join a Chat dialog loses any text you may have entered if you switch, and the Add a Chat dialog doesn't update fields between multiple accounts of the same protocol.
etan1: But I think we 'fixed' Join a Chat to not have the same-protocol problem a while back, so we should probably do the same to Add a Chat. Then we can figure out the right thing to do for both of them later.
datallah: It is unfortunate that we have to clear all the fields
etan1: Are there any protocols for which those dialogs do something which do not have a room field? Could we yank that out of the per-protocol section and thus stop clearing it?
etan1: That won't help with things like room nicknames on XMPP, but would be a start.

Just double checked and see the same behaviour with Pidgin 2.5.5
