#9167 new defect

Need way to override offline mode

Reported by: netlore Owned by: EionRobb
Milestone: Component: unclassified
Version: 2.5.5 Keywords: network offline
Cc:

Description

Later versions of Pidgin have improved the detection of the network availability flag... but certainly there are some situations where a network can be made available independently of the environment.. most other software has the ability to override the offline setting, but pidgin is still "waiting for network".. while I send this!

  • Status changed from new to pending

You can override this by changing your status.

Replying to datallah:

You can override this by changing your status.

Unless I am missing somthing, you can no-longer do this... switching to unavailable, then back to available still results in "Available - waiting for network", with some types of network connection.

Try the -f, --force-online force online, regardless of network status command-line option to pidgin.

I can't see the command line option suggested above, but it really needs to be in the GUI even if it's buried in a menu somwhere... I like the clickable network icon in evolution, but it may be in-appropriate to make somthing so prominent in pidgin since it doesn't have much utility without a network.

Ideally, it should override until the network status changes again...
