Description (last modified by pfrutuoso)

When I try to install Pidgin 2.5.6 on my WinXP, a DOS window is opened and an alert is displayed: "The NTVDM CPU has encountered an illegal instruction.Choose 'Close' to terminate the application.", when it tries to install Aspell.

If I choose Close, the setup finishes and I can run Pidgin, but i'm not able to download and install any plugin. Everytime I try it it gives me the same alert.

I've tried to install Pidgin in 3 computers and re-downloaded the setup, but the alert still remain.

So pidgin works correctly? Whereas the aspell installer fails? What do you mean you are "not able to download and install any plugin[s]"? What plugins? aspell dictionaries?

If you download the aspell installer manually does it work correctly or error similarly?

Pidgin works correctly. I'm only able to use the few plugins that came with the application.

I've tried various plugins from the plugins list on Pidgin.im. Everytime that I tried to install some plugin, it appears the command line windows and the CPU NTVDM alert.

I've installed the aspell you told me and now all works fine. Thanks. I guess that it's some problem with the pidgin installer?!? Like I've said, i've installed pidgin on 3 computers and the alert was the same. Downloaded the setup again using another internet connection (not using proxy's/firewalls, etc), and the problem was the same.

Once the problem is resolved (with the aspell installer you told me), you can close the ticket.

Thanks for your help! ;)
