#943 new enhancement

Save logs on FTP/WebDAV

Reported by: illuvatar Owned by: rlaager
Milestone: Component: pidgin (gtk)
Version: 2.0 Keywords:

Description

I don't know if there is such a plugin already, but here is what i would like to have as standard functionality in pidgin:

i use multiple operating systems (linux, xp and mac os x) and multiple PC's. pidgin is the IM client i use, cuz i need to connect to multiple networks, and pidgin does the job just fine. (on mac i use adiumx :P)

it would be nice to have the option to save the logs on a FTP/WebDAV. that way, when one would have to reboot from linux to get some work done in photoshop under windows, they would have all the logs there, and if they need to search for a phone number or smthing, they won't have to reboot to linux.

i would lobe to see that. thank you!

When using gtalk (google's XMPP service), this should be done with google's extension stanza "archivingenabled". This will save your chat logs server-side, in your gmail-account.

The google specification: http://code.google.com/apis/talk/jep_extensions/otr.html

I want to have the logs for all IM platforms, as i don't use only gtalk. i use gtalk, ym, MSN, jabber. i need to have all the logs centralised in one place.

thanks!

The RemoteLogging plugin seems very promissing.

Can anyone tell what status is it in? I could help with testing on different platforms/storage backend.

I really need to merge in the remotelogging support soon. This will get us core API support for non-blocking logging. Then, we can add support for GVFS. Then we can finally add a preference for an alternate log location. It would be used for picking a remote filesystem vis GVFS.

Any progress on this one? It doesn't really matter how it is implemented, but having im history online would be nice;)
