What are the contents of your /etc/apt/sources.list.d/pidgin-ppa.list file? That error is telling you that you likely entered the information in the file incorrectly.

I use this :

To setup the PPA, copy-and-paste these commands into a terminal:

sudo apt-key adv --recv-keys --keyserver keyserver.ubuntu.com \ 67265eb522bdd6b1c69e66ed7fb8bee0a1f196a8

. /etc/lsb-release

echo deb http://ppa.launchpad.net/pidgin-developers/ppa/ubuntu \ $DISTRIB_CODENAME main | \

sudo tee /etc/apt/sources.list.d/pidgin-ppa.list

Yes, the question is what actually made it into the pidgin-ppa.list file. Please paste the contents of that file here so we can look at them.

You didn't copy and paste the commands properly. Your sources line is missing a distro name. It should look like this (where DISTRO would be replaced by hardy, intrepid, or jaunty, depending on which version you're running):

deb http://ppa.launchpad.net/pidgin-developers/ppa/ubuntu DISTRO main

It's really not necessary to post a screenshot of a directory listing of one file or a screenshot of the text you just pasted.

If you still can't figure this out, I'd suggest you check the Pidgin Ubuntu download page again in a week or two. Hopefully by then I'll have a simplified installation process that doesn't involve copying-and-pasting commands.
