yahoo: duplicate messages

Reported by: stanislav.l Owned by: sulabh.dev
Milestone: 2.5.8 Component: Yahoo!/Yahoo! JAPAN
Version: 2.5.7 Keywords: yahoo, duplicate messages
Cc:

Description (last modified by stanislav.l)

Scientific Linux 4.5 (= RedHat? clone) ; pidgin-2.5.7-0.el4.i386.rpm, libpurple-2.5.7-0.el4.i386.rpm installed

I receive many duplicate messages, like these:

(07:38:01 PM) van4832: что Игорь? (07:38:01 PM) van4832: что Игорь? (07:38:01 PM) van4832: сделал тест? (07:38:01 PM) van4832: сделал тест?

MAYBE the problem is on the side of my interlocutor, but it appeared after upgrading to 2.5.7

This is a bug in Pidgin 2.5.7, when the user sending messages is using the latest version of yahoo messenger (I don't remember the version number). We are supposed to send acknowledgment to the server or each message is sent again after 7 secs.

This has been fixed in what would be Pidgin 2.6.0

I'm using the last version from trunk (2.6.0devel) and the bug still exists.

Replying to byraul:

I'm using the last version from trunk (2.6.0devel) and the bug still exists.

2.6.0devel is old. Upgrade to 2.6.4. This problem has been solved for months. Additionally, we don't support anyone using development code unless that person is actively contributing code to us.

Using 2.7.5, I'm seeing many doubled messages. Not *every* incoming message is doubled, however. Does this merely mean that my internet connection is crappy enough to miss the 7-second timeout with regularity? I'm on cable, and don't often see problems with latency.

I have been seeing this for several months. I tend to run the current version from the ~pidgin-developers launchpad PPA, so it's not a matter of being out of date.

I'm using version 2.9.0 and this problem is present in this version too. It was a while, in version 2.7 I think, when this was solved, but it reappearead in later versions. Same thing as ah42, not all messages are duplicated. And I also have a very good broadband connection, so I do belive that a 7 seconds latency is out of the question.

I had forgotten about this issue. The problem went away for me when my chat partner changed their IM habits: I was only getting duplicate messages when they were using Yahoo's website as their IM client, instead of a standalone client.
